Startup Businesses Inspire Me!

Building a business from the ground up is an extremely hard thing to do. I am in the early years of building my own photography business and I have come across many obstacles that seem insurmountable. Questions are constantly bombarding my mind; questions like: What if this doesn't work and I lose all my investment? What if people don't like or buy my product? What if I make a bad business decision and can't recuperate? Often, I have to take a breath and tell myself that everything is going to be alright. (And everything usually is!) So whenever I see another startup business in their early stages I am all on board for being their biggest cheerleader.

Brand Shoots

A HUGE part of getting a business off the ground is getting your name, product, service out there to all your future potential customers. This process is often given the name of 'branding' or 'building your brand'. From your social media posts, to your brand colors, to your brand voice, all the way even to the unique selection of your brand font is important in distinguishing yourself as a brand people want to do business with. I have had my fair share of experimenting with what I want my brand to be (and I still am!)

Through this process your business comes to life and it is so exciting! Something I have come to love to do is doing brand shoots. More often than not, people want to see who is behind the business. People want to do business with people. So in a brand shoot, I am able to capture both the person behind the business and the business itself with all it's products and services. I love doing these because personalities really show and like I said, startup businesses inspire me!

My Experience with My Brand

Starting a business is hard. When looking for what I wanted my brand to be I decided I wanted it to be fun and casual. My favorite color has always been pink so that had to be one of my brand colors. When deciding on the other aspects of my brand I just envisioned what kind of photography business I would want to choose if I were a customer. This helped me decide on things such as my logo, font, pictures, my brand voice, my target audience, values, policies, etc. All this took time and I was a little stressed because I wanted to have a successful business from the start. But I am so glad I took this time to figure out what it was I wanted because now I have a good base and vision to work towards.

Best Advice

The best advice I was given when starting out is to just be me. Why would I want to build a business that does not resemble my same values and likes?! As I have gone to local farmers markets and seen how talented people are with what they can do and make, I am simply shocked. It is truly amazing to see people's passion turn into a business. Like I said I am still learning the ins and outs of my own photography business. It has been a long road, but there is nothing more exhilarating than doing a business of what I love. My passion is photography. And I think that is why me and so many other small startup businesses keep on going. It's not all for the money- it is the passion that drives the business. And I am so lucky to interact and be a part of that process for you!
